Welcome all, to the fourth in a series of machines I have been designing and building called Playable Art. This installment is a way for me to pay homage to two of the best Marvel arcade games of all time. I grew up reading Marvel comics, watching Marvel cartoons, wearing Marvel Underoos, Marvel lunchbox... For my starting point, I used the original artwork that was designed for the side art, marquees, control panel overlays and monitor bezels for these machines as templates.

I redesigned each element to fit the mini cabinet format. The build time will be 4-6 weeks. I have been taking many orders and don't rush my artwork. The Side-art, printed UV inks on professional vinyl adhesive, is meticulously designed to fit the cabinet perfectly.

The left side has Captain America and the Avengers and the right side depicts the X-men. The control panel consists of a vinyl UV printed overlay which has Captain America art on left side and X-men art on the right, black bat style Happ joystick and red, white and blue Happ arcade buttons (used in original Captain America and the Avengers arcade machines) on the left side and yellow ball top style joystick with with red, yellow and blue buttons (used in original X-men arcade machine) on the right side. The front panel under the control panel is decoupaged with a Captain America comic book on the left side and an X-men comic book on the right side. I hand-picked the comics that had the right coloring for the titles and the right images.

I feel like I was lucky that I had the ones I chose. I remember reading them which is pretty cool. The 1 and 2 player buttons are on either side of a custom Captain America shield credit button.

The Overhead speaker panel houses two 4 speakers and is decoupaged with the pages of an actual Avengers comic book and then I added the cover. The issue I chose had a great image of Vision on the cover and he is a character in Captain America and the Avengers game.

All of the comics I used to decoupage the machine are from my personal collection and I read them as a child. Means something to me as an artist. I also applied a triple thick glaze over all of the decoupaged panels to create a glass like feel and protective layer. The Monitor bezel is UV adhesive vinyl applied to plexiglass. Similar to vintage Nintendo look.

The overall art is Captain America and the bottom of the bezel has the x-men art and playable character list from the original machines. The top of the cabinet can have attachments for the three of the six Marvel Hero Weapons that I have assembled for this machine. Light-up Captain America shield, metal Hawkeye arrow with matching color coordinated feathers and the 440 Stainless Steel Wolverine Claws. These are heavy and sharp. Seriously, I have protective covers for the tips but these are for real.

The back of the cabinet can have the other three which are light up Iron Man helmet, Colossus metal hand and Cyclops shades. All of the weapons are removable so you accessorize at your own discretion. As an artist, I enjoy learning from every piece I create. This was an incredible experience and has now inspired me to create the next machineI'm making some wild new machines upcoming... One of a kind as always. The game cabinet size is 19.5" W x 21" H x 17" D and the monitor size is 17".
