Antique penny arcade electric shock machines. "Electricity -- Improves The Health".

Item Description -- Please Read CAREFULLY! This is an original, authentic, Advance penny arcade electric shock machine, probably manufactured in the 1930s or early 1940s. Advance Machine Company in Chicago, Illinois manufactured these arcade favorites.

Patrons would place a penny in the slot and hold both knobs firmly. As the right knob rotated clockwise, the arrow in the lower curved window would move to the right indicating the continuous electric shock was getting stronger. Few people were able to withstand the increasing discomfort and released their grip long before arriving at full shock power at the 500 mark. This machine is made from solid steel and is approximately 9" wide, 15" high, and 7 deep. Overall, it's quite clean. It is red in color.

The outside surface is lightly worn and scratched, mostly on the bottom base. The marquee along the top is firm and not bent or damaged. However, the base where it attaches to the box has two corners very slightly bent upward. This is an easy fix to straighten them out with either a pair of pliers or light hammer. I've chosen to leave it as-is.

It appears the original placard, faded but readable , is still in place. The marquee says Electricity -- One Cent -- Increases the Circulation -- Purifies the Blood -- Improves The Health. It then goes on to give directions for use.

The paper dial with the numbers appears to be original. The cabinet has some light wear and scratching, and a few minor rust spots in places.

Nothing serious, just average wear. On the bottom are four rubber corner protectors and a list of Advance Patents. Again, check my graphics , the patent numbers should help an expert pinpoint the year of manufacture. Comes with a functioning key , and the front is easily removed to access the inside workings, and can be locked into place.

The old original battery has been replaced. This machine has a newer cylindrical 1 1/2 volt replacement battery. The inside mechanism is very clean. All internal parts appear to be present.

The right knob turns fine and the needle will move across the dial in the lower window. This is a working machine! I tested it with a penny. Even though it has been in storage for nearly seven years, as I turned the knob I received a mild electrical shock.

However, this weak battery will need to either be recharged or replaced. If you wish to restore , this should be a relatively easy project. Please examine the graphics carefully.

We must be doing something RIGHT! 14-Return Privilege -- Read Details!

The machine will be bubble wrapped or foam peanut covered inside a box, which will then be placed in a larger second box with 2 of foam protection on all sides, and numerous FRAGILE stickers will be placed on the outside box.
